Granada is a city with incredible energy, where every corner tells its own story. It makes you fall in love with its contrasts: majestic architecture and cozy Arabic streets. In this article, I will help you choose the ideal location for your photo story.

Important Note on Photoshoots in the Alhambra

Many dream of a photoshoot inside the famous palace. This is possible, but the following nuances should be taken into account:

  1. A fee is charged for professional photoshoots in the Alhambra (the amount is specified on the official website). In addition, photoshoots are only allowed in specially designated areas and must be planned in advance (submitting an application for a special permit. Detailed information is available on the Alhambra website).

  2. The Alhambra is one of Spain's most visited attractions. Therefore, the number of people should be considered.

But don't worry! I know many places where we can take stunning shots with a view of the Alhambra without paying for the location and in a more peaceful atmosphere.

1. Mirador San Nicolás and the Albaicín District

This is a classic without which it's impossible to imagine Granada.

A breathtaking rooftop view from the Albaicín — white-walled Granada houses with terracotta rooftops spread below, palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the iconic Alhambra fortress crowning the hillside beyond.

What awaits us: Cozy white houses, cobbled streets, authentic old doors, flowers, and, of course, that iconic postcard view of the Alhambra.

Atmosphere: The true spirit of old Spain and the romance of narrow streets.

Best time for photoshoots: Sunrise (ideal time, beautiful light, and no tourists will allow you to enjoy the wonderful views, and after the photoshoot, you can stay longer and have a cup of morning coffee in such an authentic place). Sunset (more tourists, but I know streets in Albaicín where we can shoot in a more peaceful setting).

2. Historic Center (Centro Histórico)

If you're drawn to monumental architecture and an urban rhythm.

A sweeping panoramic view of Granada from the heights of the Albaicín — terracotta rooftops, the city cathedral dome, and the vast Vega de Granada stretching to the horizon.

What awaits us: The majestic Granada Cathedral and the surrounding old streets with beautiful cafes.
Atmosphere: The spirit of an old European town.

A chic fashion portrait — a blonde woman in a classic camel trench coat and bold red beret leans against a vintage street lamp on a quiet Andalusian city street, exuding effortless European style.

Best time for photoshoots: Sunrise (ideal time, a quiet waking city, and no tourists).

3. Carmen de los Mártires Gardens

A real "secret garden" for those who want silence and elegance. Entrance to the garden is free.

What awaits us: A well-kept green maze, blooming gardens, statues, fountains, ponds, a lake, peacocks, and an unusual Arabic gallery.

An enchanting individual portrait — a woman poses gracefully on a wrought-iron terrace railing with a magnificent peacock standing nearby, surrounded by a lush tropical garden in Andalusia.

Atmosphere: Calm, cozy, and aristocratic. Ideal for elegant and delicate looks.

Best time for photoshoots: The first hours of the garden's opening (from 10 AM), the last hours of opening (closing at 6 PM in winter, 8 PM in summer).

4. Paseo de los Tristes

  • A walk along the Darro River at the foot of the Alhambra and Albaicín.

An individual portrait full of autumn mood — a young person leans on a centuries-old stone bridge in Granada's Río Darro area, golden leaves scattered on the cobblestones below.

What awaits us: The picturesque cobbled promenade (Paseo de los Tristes).
Atmosphere: A very photogenic mix of old stone, bridges, greenery, and a "medieval" mood.
Best time for photoshoots: Sunrise (ideal time, a quiet waking city, and no tourists). After the photoshoot, you can stay and have a cup of morning coffee in one of the many coffee shops. At other times of the day, it's very crowded.

5. Palace of Charles V (Palacio de Carlos V)

  • A location for those who love scale, symmetry, and majestic architecture. Entrance is free.

The magnificent Renaissance courtyard of the Palace of Charles V inside the Alhambra complex — its circular colonnade of marble columns is one of Granada's most stunning architectural settings.

What awaits us: A unique circular inner courtyard with tall columns and Renaissance architecture.

A poetic individual portrait — a woman in a camel trench coat reads quietly among the magnificent marble columns of the Palace of Charles V inside Granada's legendary Alhambra complex.

Atmosphere: Austerity, majesty, and the play of light between the columns. Very atmospheric shots are taken here.

Timeless elegance — a sophisticated woman in a pearl necklace and grey cashmere sweater holds a fashion magazine among the ancient Roman columns of the Alhambra's Palace of Charles V, Granada.

Best time for photoshoots: Morning and evening.

6. Realejo District

The old Realejo quarter is the soul of Granada, hidden from the main tourist routes. Here the city reveals its more intimate and artistic side.
